Vote.org Statement on Mail Ballot Executive Order
Vote.org CEO Andrea Hailey issued the following statement in response to the Executive Order issued today restricting mail-in voting access:
“This executive order represents a troubling departure from our nation’s democratic principles. The policy does not advance election security, it advances voter suppression.
“A government controlled eligibility list, one that operates without transparency or due process, fundamentally contradicts American values. Eligible voters should never fear being quietly removed from voting rolls without clear notification or the opportunity to remedy the situation. This approach mirrors authoritarian practices, not the protections we expect in a democracy where voting is a fundamental right.
“The evidence is clear: noncitizen voting and voter fraud remain vanishingly rare occurrences in American elections. Yet we continue to see these manufactured concerns weaponized to restrict access to the ballot. The real danger lies in systems where eligible voters can be quietly disenfranchised by administrative decisions beyond their control.
“At Vote.org, we have spent multiple election cycles using technology to empower eligible voters: to help them register, understand their options, and cast their ballots. We have witnessed firsthand the profound barriers that already exist for millions of Americans seeking to vote. This executive order adds another layer of uncertainty and risk.
“We stand with the millions of Americans who believe voting should be accessible, not gatekept. We will continue our work to ensure every eligible voter can participate in our democracy.”
